Use in-line quality process controls in Factbird
Factbird’s Connected Operations app digitizes time-consuming in-line quality checks that operators would normally carry out with paper forms or spreadsheets.
With automated prompts, digital forms, and reporting, you can streamline quality processes, improve traceability, and increase completion rates.
Building in-line quality checks
From the Activities page, you can create in-line quality checks using the Digital Form Builder:
- Give the check a title and optional description.
- Assign it to a location (e.g., specific site or line).
- Adjust settings such as requiring operator initials or allowing manual start.
- Define a trigger for when the check should appear: - Every X minutes or units produced.
- At batch start, batch end, shift start, or shift end.
- At fixed times (e.g., weekly).
- Based on downtime registration (specific stop cause, type, or category).

You then build the form using customizable elements such as:
- Number fields with min/max limits to automatically flag failures.
- Pass/fail buttons with custom labels.
- Checklists for multi-step inspections.
- Text, date, or options fields for additional inputs.
- Image upload to document failed checks.
For example, a weight check can be set with acceptable limits (40–50 g). If an operator enters a value outside that range, the system automatically records it as a fail.
Completing quality checks
Operators complete quality checks directly from the Registered stops page:
- Prompts appear when triggered (e.g., every 500 units, at shift end, or after a specific downtime event).
- The operator enters the required data (e.g., weight, test result) and submits the form.
- Failures are flagged automatically if values fall outside defined limits.
Operators can also start checks manually if that option has been enabled.
Analyzing results
All results are stored in the Reporting section of the Activities page. Here you can:
- See pass/fail counts over a chosen time span (e.g., last 8 hours).
- Filter by activity type, location, batch, or status.
- Drill down into individual results to view recorded values, comments, and failures.
For example, you might see that seven in-line checks passed while eight failed, with details showing which values were out of spec.
By digitizing in-line quality process controls with Factbird, you standardize inspections, capture reliable data, and create a full digital record of quality performance across shifts and lines.
