Set up process controls for batches in Factbird

Download the lesson slides >

Process controls in Factbird let you schedule regular checks during production to make sure critical parameters stay within limits.

Operators are prompted at defined intervals to enter data, confirm conditions, or verify measurements, helping maintain consistent quality and compliance.

With prompts appearing on screens during production, your operators will be more likely to complete important tasks such as in-line quality checks, improving your overall production outcomes.

Creating a process control

To set up a new process control:

  1. Go to the Batches page, click the plus button, and select Add process control.
  2. Enter a name and description (e.g., “Check cooler temperature”).
  3. Choose when the control should be triggered, for example:
    • At the start or end of a batch
    • At the end of a shift
    • Every X minutes after batch start
  4. Decide whether the timer should pause when the line is stopped or run continuously.
Add a field for operator input. Options include:
    • Text entry
    • Number (e.g., temperature, weight)
    • Automatic sensor data
  5. Set acceptable limits (e.g., a cooler temperature between 2 and 5°C).
  6. Choose if operator initials are always required or only when values fall outside the limits.

Once saved, the process control will appear in your Factbird dashboard, and operators will be prompted to complete the check according to the rules you set.

Why use process controls?

By adding process controls, you can:

  • Ensure key parameters stay within quality limits.
  • Standardize operator checks across shifts.
  • Automatically log data for traceability and compliance.
  • Trigger alerts when conditions fall outside the defined range.
  • Make shifts easier for your team.

This makes it easier to maintain consistent quality and reduce risk while also providing managers with confidence that critical checks are happening.
