Add roles and users to Andon in Factbird

Download the lesson slides >

To make Andon effective, you need the right people assigned to the right roles.

In Factbird’s Connected Operations app, you can add workers with their contact details and assign them to roles so that Andon calls reach the right person as quickly as possible.

Adding a new worker

  1. Go to the Andon page and click Workers at the top.
  2. Click the plus button in the bottom right.
  3. Enter the worker’s name, email, and phone number so they can be notified by email or SMS when a call is made.
  4. Assign the worker to a specific role, such as manager, technician, electrician, operator, etc.

Setting escalation rules

When assigning roles, you can define notification delays:

  • Delay: how long after a call is made before this role is notified (e.g., a manager is notified after 30 minutes if no one else has responded).
  • Taken delay: how long after a call is taken but not resolved before this role is alerted (e.g., 60 minutes after the call was acknowledged).

You can also set multiple layers of escalation. For example:

  • First notification by email after 30 minutes.
  • Second notification by SMS after 45 minutes.
  • Further reminders if the issue remains unresolved (e.g., at 60 and 90 minutes).

Managing roles and coverage

Once you have set up workers and roles, they will appear in your Andon worker list.

Combined with your shift schedule, this helps you ensure that the right roles (manager, electrician, technician, etc.) are always covered during production hours.

Andon best practice

Use delays and escalation carefully:

  • Set shorter delays for critical roles (e.g., technicians).
  • Use managers as a backup escalation point rather than the first response.
  • Mix email and SMS alerts so urgent calls get through quickly.

By assigning roles and users properly, Andon calls are routed to the right people, downtime is addressed faster, and coverage gaps across shifts can be avoided.
