Pure water is an absolutely necessity, the importance of which we cannot negate. It has been a regular demand for every household. With the increase in population there has been an increasing demand of pure water and decreasing supply due to an increase in pollution. Thus, installing a whole house water filter system has become mandatory for everyone.

A whole house water filter system has been designed and developed to provide clean, filtered water throughout your entire house. It is connected to the main water line of your home. The system contains of a pre filter to separate large particles coming from main line and a large filter tank which contains the main filter medium (usually carbon).

Finding Good Whole House Water Filter Systems

The essential feature required in a filter system is to first of all remove all chlorine content from water as chlorine is harmful for both drinking and bathing. It should also filter water according to the designated standards of the nation. Here are some of the basic features to look for when getting a new water filter system.

Recommended Features

First of all check whether your treatment plant that supplies you water uses chlorine or chloramines. Then decide which type of filter system is required in you region.

Make sure that the system you are about to buy removes heavy metals. Generally systems use KDF-55 to remove heavy metals.
Find a system that doesn’t need cleaning or backwash as maintaining such a system can be difficult and could waste a lot of water and electricity.

Find out how long the filter media being used is required to be changed or maintained. Generally it should be around 5 years and the only change that must be required in around 5 years should be the pre-filter. Also look for how much time you are getting the warranty and what are the things covered in it.

Keep in mind the size of your home, your water usage, the number of bathrooms etc. also check the water flow speed in your area because that would decide the size of the system you need as the filter size should never be less than required.
